Newport Sands in Pembrokeshire is a 1.5 mile stretch of sandy beach backed by sand dunes looking out to the Irish Sea. Situated at the mouth of the River Nevern in Newport, just 10 miles south-west of Cardigan, this spacious Blue Flag beach is an ideal base families and water sports enthusiasts alike. Popular activities at Newport Sands include windsurfing, kite surfing, canoeing, sailing, and swimming, with a safe swimming zone patrolled by lifeguards during July and August.
Wildlife lovers visiting Newport Sands can enjoy the many waders and wildfowl which frequent the Nevern estuary, as well as spotting the porpoises, bottle-nosed dolphins, and grey seals resident in Cardigan Bay. From Newport Sands, walkers can join the Pembrokeshire Coast Path which stretches north-east towards Poppit Sands and west towards Fishguard, providing magnificent coastal scenery as the trail climbs along the cliffs looking out across the Cardigan Bay.
Ample parking is available at Newport Sands in the large car park situated below the golf course alongside the beach, with limited parking available on the beach itself. Public conveniences and a small beach shop and café are located close to the car park. A smaller car park and public conveniences are also available across the estuary at Newport Parrog.
